Nina had... definitely spent way, way too much on souvenirs for the boyos. Way too much.

But, like, no regrets!

Feeling that shipping it to Noctis' place was the easiest way to make sure that all of them got theirs (she knew good and well that Prompto spent more time there than at home—when she wasn't around) Nina had packed and shipped everything before she'd left to head back to Fandom.

It just took time to get there. But, when the opened the box, they'd be enveloped in a pile of Mickey Mouse confetti and her note.

Nina figured that, like, they didn't need an actual signature to know who it came from with that.

Each package was neatly wrapped (in variously obnoxiously silly and glittery wrapping papers) and labeled.

Noctis would find a keyblade and Gladio would find the same, only more serious business.

Ignis had two packages, one with a series of cookbooks and the other, with a pair of daggers.

Prompto had, like, actually been the hardest, once Nina had settled on everyone else's gifts. Disney wasn't exactly big on guns but she'd persevered and come out almost victorious. (He was also getting a note advising him that they were blasters, not guns.) He also got a jacket honestly just because she'd seen it and thought of him.

And finally, there was a note with a request to take one last package to Iris, pretty please. Inside of that was two necklaces.

Oh. And right.

They each got a pair of ears. Noctis, Gladio, Ignis, Prompto, and Iris.

She'd spent way, way too much money on all of this. She really had.

Don't freak but, like, we've got another snow globe situation and portals are down.

Was Prompto's first response to this text (other than maybe a curse word that earned him a disapproving look from Ignis but definitely got everyone's attention?) to actually test the portal situation as soon as he could to confirm that they were, in fact, down (and, if they were maybe just down one way so that he could help)?

Duh. Obviously. What else would he his response to a text like that? Especially after seeing those videos!

But since it was clear he couldn't get through, either, at least he was a little comforted by the fact that at least there probably wasn't anyone there right now that would be as much of an idiot as he and Norman had been that one time...

Anyway, by the end of all that, all he really had to reply was quite possibly the biggest sad-face emoji ever.

Considering that most of Prompto's day was pretty stacked with making sure Noctis and Gladio were busy and kept out of their respective homes for the Planting of the Presents, the last thing he expected when he eventually returned to his home was a surprise present of his own!

It wasn't quite the epicness of the multiverse's most ridiculous royal portrait or a half-ninja, half-princess, complete with a fancy carraige bed bedroom makeover, but it was still pretty great, especially since it really was the last thing he'd expected, not matter how small.

It was also weirdly touching, even if would inspire a good deal of guilt and flailing because Liam (and, well, the panda, too, for that matter!) really, really didn't have to do that.

But once he opened it and saw what it was, he had to laugh and no amount of guilt could shake how great it was, and he was definitely thinking of how he could make it up to Liam (and maybe the panda??) before shooting him a text.

Merry Christmas, man! Just got your present! thnx so much! Never thought I'd say it, but that panda's got some good taste! 🤣🤣🤣

Of COURSE she was going to participate. This was too good a chance to prank people to pass up!

At some point much later Thursday evening after she had settled in at the BPRD, one of the first things Liz had done was take a lot of updated photos of all of Hellboy’s cats because that had been an easy way to distract herself from everything that had been happening, there were also a few photos of Hellboy with all the cats because he had photobombed some of the photos and sent them through in an email to Prompto. There had ended up being a lot of photos taken but Liz didn't think Prompto would be complaining about that.

Then she composed a text message and added quite a few extra photos of Leo and sent it through. She had debated on what to say for a while and then finally wrote the message and sent it.


The text message read:

Hi …there are several photos of all the cats heading your way, I sent you an email :) I can definitely take more if you would like, here’s some extra photos of Leo :)

everyone says hello! :)

You know what was even better than a whole email full of cats? Those smiles in the text. Even if Liz was putting them in just to put up a good front, at least she was trying to put up a good front, and at least now she was back home, too, with friends,instead of just wallowing back in Fandom, which would only be a constant reminder of what had happened.

So he was just going to take a moment to appreciate all that before sending his response back:

At which point Liz would be treated to a short video of Prompto going up to the novelty singing fish that Noctis had mounted on his wall, and when he pushed the button, the animatronics kicked in to have it start singing "Feliz Navidad" very loudly, for some reason, despite Prompto being pretty sure it had never sang that song before, and then the complaining voice of Noctis coming through with, "I swear, Prompto, if you keep doing that, I'm going to throw that fish right out the wind--"

That was where the video cut off, and a few moments later, another text followed:

And he wished there was a better emoji for a hug.

That Tuesday morning when Liz opened the Photo Hut, Prompto would receive a text message and another email full of cat photos that Liz had ended up taking over the last few days.


Hi I’m back in Fandom - Rain and I got in last night. :)

I’ve also sent you another email full of cat photos … there are a lot more photos, I spent a lot of time with the cats (and everybody else as well) :) Going back … I needed this … being away for a few days helped.

I … I think I’m ready to face whatever’s going to happen next.

It was a bit later in the day when Prompto was able to really get to his phone and respond to the text, but when he eventually did, it was hard not to do so with a soft smile and almost kind of wishing it wasn't just Tuesday right now and closer to the weekend.

apparently with all the craziness going on, I missed the email Hellboy sent about the kittens being born. There were five kittens born, I thought maybe you'd like to see them this weekend with me if you think you can get away to visit?

I love you and I miss you yes she had seen him that morning but she had already started missing him and was hoping that he'd be free to go visit the newborn kittens (and everyone else at the BPRD) with her.

“Um…I don’t know if you’re even going to receive this but I … I had to try and talk to to you, I’m so sorry …I wish I could be there in person to explain to you, to apologise … I … I can’t … I didn’t mean …I love you and I …” her voice trailed off, “I miss you so so much …I love you…” she said again and let out a sob and that was when she hung up.
