That Tuesday morning when Liz opened the Photo Hut, Prompto would receive a text message and another email full of cat photos that Liz had ended up taking over the last few days.


Hi I’m back in Fandom - Rain and I got in last night. :)

I’ve also sent you another email full of cat photos … there are a lot more photos, I spent a lot of time with the cats (and everybody else as well) :) Going back … I needed this … being away for a few days helped.

I … I think I’m ready to face whatever’s going to happen next.

I miss you. I’ll see you when you get back :)

It was a bit later in the day when Prompto was able to really get to his phone and respond to the text, but when he eventually did, it was hard not to do so with a soft smile and almost kind of wishing it wasn't just Tuesday right now and closer to the weekend.

She stared down at his last question.

I …I don’t know. I haven’t thought much about celebrating New Years. It might be a bit much but can I think about it?

A week ago she would have absolutely said no at the idea of being at such a big event especially now they were no longer in the time loop.

However going to the party, well she’d have to face people sooner or later she wasn’t sure if she was ready to face such a big crowd though.

And the last thing anyone needed, really, was for Liz to get overwhelmed and burn down the bar to start the New Year...

Several anxious drumming of his fingers on his phone and a good deal of fidgeting later, he added:

maybe we could do something, just the two of us?

And as soon as he sent it, doubt flooded in like a broken dam, and he quickly added:

if you wanted! Idk. Maybe? You can totally think about it! No problem if not, that's fine too!

Liz also really didn’t want to start the New Years being arrested again. Especially after being arrested twice in the last four months.

There was a hesitation and then she added I would understand if you’d rather go the party though

There was a good chance that Prompto was going to make his lip bleed, the way he chewed on it with indecision about what he wanted to say next, ultimately reasoning with himself this if it ended up going badly, he could just claim one of the guys had stolen his phone and wrote what followed:

Liz stared down at the message, debating how to respond.

Then there was another pause and she tried writing again.

I…

I …I didn’t- I don’t want to make things awkward for you.

Well she had probably just made things awkward but on the plus side she hadn’t started crying so that was progress at least?

Prompto blinked a few times at Liz's message, frowning a little as he reread it a few times to make sure he'd read it right, because he thought he made it pretty clear that...

Then he read it with his message and groaned a little, realizing how maybe text wasn't exactly the best way to get a certain tone across.

No, it's not awkward! At least i hope it's not! What i meant was it does matter what we do, all i care about is that I'm doing it with you

And THAT he was preparing to blame on his phone being usurped if she STILL protested, because, okay. Yeah, message received at that point!

oh…. Liz tried again and realised that she was repeating herself but she wasn’t good at articulating herself in normal conversation let alone a text message so she spent a few minutes longer before she added.

oh I mean …then yes I still want to spend new year’s with you, I…I’d like that a lot :)

And those few minutes longer between that first oh and the rest of it were brutal, as Prompto spent the whole time pretty much staring at his phone, wondering it that oh was it, and if that oh was it, then what did it mean? Was it a good oh? A bad one? Should he say something more? Would she just rather be alone on New Year's and was just trying to be polite and not hurt his feel--

And then the rest of it came in, and Prompto's breath left him in a relieved gush even before he read what she'd sent, and the relief bolstered itself once he saw and processed the actual words.

Ok good. cool. 😊 then it's a plan? And I'll see you Friday?

It's a plan :) I'll see you Friday... just as she hit send, she considered something and then she quickly sent another text I...I'm looking forward to it :)

It also gave her something else to think about and distract herself from everything else that had been going on.
