The Apartment above the Photo Hut; Sunday Afternoon [02/11] - PuppyBowl Birthday Party!

Prompto would be entirely honest; if there was anything a bit different going on in town, he was completely unaware of it, because he'd been singularly focused since pretty much Friday on getting things all ready and set up for Noctra's birthday party today. The decorations were an amalgamation of both puppy things and football things, with a both First Year Down! and Let's Pawty! balloons to really drive it home.

And, of course, the birthday girl herself was showing her appreciation for the theme, as well! Unfortunately, with her dad's excitement all morning in getting things up, she hadn't been able to nap like he was hoping she would, so he was holding his breath that the whole thing wouldn't make her too cranky or overwhelmed, but at least there was plenty to distract her in the meantime. Including a little help from Rain pulling in duty as Party Ruferee.


Then there was getting everything with the catering set out for the guests, which included your typical moddable game day fare, but especially puppy chow, mini hot dogs, and, of course pizza rolls! There were a puppy bowl birthday cake, even, with some vegan cupcake puppy players!

And, of course, near the entrance, there were plenty of party hats for anyone who wanted to claim their allegiance for Team Ruff or Team Fluff or just Team Noctra (he suspected those would be the most popular, really).

And for once, after everything was set up and copious amounts of pictures had been taken, Prompto actually wasn't feeling like he hadn't gone enough on the theme, and was feeling pretty good about this one, actually!

Obviously, Gladio wasn't going to miss this for anything. Even without it being for Noctra's birthday, the pure entertainment factor of Prompto getting this into anything even remotely sports-adjacent alone was enough to get him here. So he'd be grabbing a drink, crushing an absurd amount of those little hot dogs, and wondering if he should tease Prompto a little by asking him to give him a full rundown on the specs on the players and their respective teams before they really got into the game so he'd know whose side he was leaning toward.

"Beefslab," Liliana greeted with a small grin, because if he was going to make sure 'Lils' stuck, she was going to lean into his nickname as well. "If you're keeping track of how many of those you've eaten so you can inform Ignis and watch his reaction..." She had to consider it. "Don't, because I just got him relaxed, but if you must, make sure I'm there for it."

Look, she also enjoyed riling her paramour, as all the fly-fishing jokes this past week had shown.

Ahh, the joys of Portalocity and living in a multidimensional nexus where one could find themselves able to travel from one continent to the next with just a call and a few mere moments...

...assuming one was able to, but rarely had Ignis encountered troubles going from one point to the next within the same dimension, and today was no exception, thank goodness, because he would have felt absolutely awful if his own birthday celebration had gotten in the way of Noctra's. Which wasn't to say that he was under any impression that it would actually mean something to her, of course it wouldn't, she was far too young for that, but it would mean something to Prompto, and, really, if he examined the whole concept of celebrating his birthday at all, much less with some elaborate (expensive) trip...

Well, hardly anything to think about at a party, really. Either way, he had woken up in Argentina that morning, and now he was here, looking perhaps like he'd gotten a little bit of sun and was, dare we say it?, even a bit relaxed, too.

And Liliana was dreadfully smug about that, too. It had been a lovely vacation this far, the coffee bar almost making up for the gods awful time it arrived at their door, the vineyards full of enough sensory input that it seemed like lacking eyesight barely mattered, and the food and wine pairings had been uniformly exquisite. Liliana also looked like she'd gotten some sun, bringing out the roses in her cheeks and adding a hint of gold to the pallor of her skin. A LaCroix worth of color, basically.

"It seems almost a shame to go back just to turn around and come home home tomorrow," she murmured to him. "Perhaps it would have been more efficient to bring our luggage with us." She sounded wistful - the last few days had been full of warmth and sunshine and a truly sinful amount of, ahem, scheduled fun.

Steven and Llewellyn who would ping in on his own when time zones were in their favor had done their usual Saturday off island activities so neither of them were aware of any strangeness going on either. Instead they were there, as themselves, and only concerned with such things as where should Llewellyn put the gift, would the hosts and the guest of honor have a good time, and in Steven's case wondering how puppies had been taught to play American football.

"Hello!" Steven said when they arrived.

"Steven! Hey!" Prompto probably had enough nervous energy in him to run the length of a football field about fifty times, and it showed when he bounced from one distraction to the next and then to noticing Steven and Watts' arrival and going to go greet them. "Awesome! I'm glad you were able to make it! Come on in, enjoy the party! Cupcakes are vegan, by the way, game is at two, did you want me to grab you a drink? Oh! And presents can go over there, we're doing those and the cake after the game, make yourselves at home..."

There was, miraculously, a pause as his head tilted. "I think I got everything..." And then he laughed and shook his head. "Anyway, yes. Welcome. Thank you for coming."

Summer was definitely going to be there, because, let's face it, she felt she could make a pretty good claim for helping make sure this baby even made it into the world, and also because she looked super cute in her little custom-made and very kid-party-appropriate pink football jersey with her name on the back and the number 420, a white ribbon wrapped around her ponytail, and even black paintmarks under her eyes, because goddammit, if she didn't love leaning into a theme. And even though she knew the actual game wasn't going to start until this was probably wrapping up, she was still glued to her phone keeping updated on things throughout the party.

But, no, in case you were wondering, Summer didn't really care about football.

But she did care about Taylor Swift.

It should be no surprise that a clearly sun-kissed and relaxed Liliana was very unfamiliar with most of these party refreshments. It wasn't like Ignis was particularly known for his pizza roll appreciation or his mastery of mini hot dogs.

She was currently examining a tacquito, while about to make the rookie mistake of popping a pizza roll fresh from the oven into her mouth.

If the molten lava that was pizza roll filling made her unable to enjoy her last night of Argentinian cuisine, she was going to be quite put out.

If there was anything that guaranteed you an invitation to a baby's first birthday, surely it was the possession of two babies of your own, right? Though Annie would have probably been here regardless, even without the excuse of needing to escort her own children.

And while she had valiantly tried to find either football or puppy-related clothing for them, all she'd turned up was a pair of Ben's jammies with dalmatians and firetrucks. (Which, like, adorable, but not appropriate for a party.) So, instead, she'd leaned into a different animal aesthetic, one she had seen Noctra herself sporting recently, and thus both Ben and Maggie arrived with their mother -- who, herself, had turned up in yet another unstained sweatshirt, you're all welcome -- in style.

And considering she'd also brought a gift for the birthday girl, there might have been a little bit of juggling as she made her way through the door. God only knew where she'd parked that monster stroller.

Nell was going to find herself a drink and a mostly quiet corner and enjoy watching all the people - and eventually, most likely, the puppy bowl. It was always a delight to see the chocobros interact and Liliana's beautifully dramatic conversations were always fun to watch. (She meant that in all good ways - but the color, the flair of Liliana couldn't help but be dramatic no matter what else she might do or say and Nell enjoyed it.)

Annie and her children were adorable as was Noctra, and Steven and Watts were very sweet. Summer was mildly terrifying as always, especially with the black streaks on her cheekbones.

So Nell would enjoy the show from her quiet perch off to the side.

Stark had been having a quiet week and weekend and was definitely ready for some football company in the form of a party. Especially an utterly adorable party.

He was not dressed up in any football attire but just wearing a comfy hoodie and carrying a small gift bag for the birthday girl.

Honestly, Prompto is just as excited about the year's Puppy Bowl as he is for his daughter's birthday, which, to be fair, isn't even until Wednesday, so it's fine! But Puppy Bowl XX is definitely a big focus of the day, and it starts at two, and there's plenty of seats around the TV so everyone can enjoy it, cheer on their team, and maybe even take in a little sports betting over how things will go!

There's a good chance that Noctra really has no idea what's even going on, but definitely wish her a happy birthday or leave some presents or do other birthday-related stuff while you still can, because she probably will start getting cranky once all the cute puppies on the TV are finished being cute and she's way overdue for a nap anyway!

Now that Annie knew a thing or two about baby stuff, she had decided to give Prompto and Liz a little gift of their own -- and thus, her gift was brought already assembled, though she'd stuck a big pink bow on the drawing surface.

And, of course, there was an accompanying card, listing the gift from Ben, Maggie, and their Mom and Dad, in that order.

Ignis had tragically vetoed Liliana's first two present suggestions, declaring a year was too young for Noctra to have her own pony (which Liliana only agreed with because neither of her parents could ride and she was too young too be out without a lead line) and that Prompto, at least, wouldn't appreciate the kind of guardian that Liliana could provide (even if a giant undead snake would be unfailingly loyal and attentive), and so they had arrived with toys instead.

It was obvious to guess who had influenced which toy, but Liliana was particularly pleased by the secret third gift she had gotten, which was as likely to dismay the bros as it was to delight Noctra, meaning that it was an absolutely perfect gift.
