Prompto would be entirely honest; if there was anything a bit different going on in town, he was completely unaware of it, because he'd been singularly focused since pretty much Friday on getting things all ready and set up for Noctra's birthday party today. The decorations were an amalgamation of both puppy things and football things, with a both First Year Down! and Let's Pawty! balloons to really drive it home.

And, of course, the birthday girl herself was showing her appreciation for the theme, as well! Unfortunately, with her dad's excitement all morning in getting things up, she hadn't been able to nap like he was hoping she would, so he was holding his breath that the whole thing wouldn't make her too cranky or overwhelmed, but at least there was plenty to distract her in the meantime. Including a little help from Rain pulling in duty as Party Ruferee.

Then there was getting everything with the catering set out for the guests, which included your typical moddable game day fare, but especially puppy chow, mini hot dogs, and, of course pizza rolls! There were a puppy bowl birthday cake, even, with some vegan cupcake puppy players!

And, of course, near the entrance, there were plenty of party hats for anyone who wanted to claim their allegiance for Team Ruff or Team Fluff or just Team Noctra (he suspected those would be the most popular, really).

And for once, after everything was set up and copious amounts of pictures had been taken, Prompto actually wasn't feeling like he hadn't gone enough on the theme, and was feeling pretty good about this one, actually!

Maybe it's your big destiny to meet your true love at a one-year-old's puppy bowl party, you don't know!! ]]

"On the other hand he does have his pick of all the furniture for himself," Steven said.

As opposed to when they were home and Raphael had to choose between furniture or laps, oh no.

"Nor is he truly alone, I suppose," Watts said with a nod. Since, you know, their house was a sentient pocket dimension.

With fish for him to watch as well! Probably far more interesting than any sort of sports bowl could have been.

"Still, we'll have to make it up to him," Steven said. "Loads of cuddles and pets along with dinner."

"Oh indeed," Watts agreed. "Maybe a treat or two. Since we've been enjoying treats, after all."

"Playing with toys as well," Steven said. Was he regretting not getting a new toy for Raphael in honor of the occasion? Maybe.

"Not to mention daring to exist in the general vicinity of another cat," Watts said, glancing over at Rain.

"We'll make sure he understands there's no one else for us as our number one," Steven said. He was looking at Llewellyn in a way which suggested this might not be solely about the cat. "Our hearts are claimed."

The absolutely smitten look on Watts's face hopefully made it clear that Steven's unspoken message was received. "It is nice to hear that out loud sometimes," he agreed.

Steven smiled to show the smitten look was noted and appreciated. "Or to have demonstrations, if a more outward reminder is needed."

"Oh, demonstrations are always appreciated, even when not strictly needed."

Watts... wasn't speaking on behalf of the cat anymore.

"There could be several demonstrations as needed," Steven said. He grinned. "When we get home."

Where the cat was.

"That has the potential to be very nice indeed," Watts said with a nod.

"Good to know Raphael will appreciate it," Steven said with a grin.

It was possible he was also still thinking about maybe picking up a cat toy on the way home.

"He always appreciates you."

And now he was speaking of the cat again but not only of the cat.

Steven ducked his head. "It's nice to be appreciated."

Not just by the cat but Steven would be lying if he said earning Raphael's approval hadn't mattered to him.

"Should I tell him thank you?"

Luckily for Steven, the skittish just-out-of-a-shelter cat had been pretty quick to pick up on his kind and gentle nature.

"I'm sure he'd love to hear it from you."

Steven smiled. "I'll be sure to tell him of my gratitude then. As I am especially grateful for his esteem."

"Which he will demonstrate by recounting his afternoon for you in detail, I'm sure," Watts said.

Now Steven's smile of affection actually was entirely about the cat. "He is a demonstrative little lad isn't he? Sweet with how he demands his pets."

"It's been rather nice watching his personality blossom," Watts agreed.

Did he still go on High Alert whenever delivery people stopped by? Yes, but he no longer dashed underneath the couch as a first resort.

"That's you," Steven said. He bumped their shoulders together. "Seeing his true nature in spite of how shy he was when you met. Knowing he only needed love to be who he was meant to be."

Perhaps it was because they were something of kindred spirits, the two of them.

Not that he was going to say so here. It may be a private home but it was still a relatively public gathering, after all.

"It was quite clear to me when I spotted him at the shelter that he would be the one coming home with me," Watts said instead.

"And now our family wouldn't be complete without him," Steven said. "Look how well you chose!"

"We do all fit together rather well, don't we?"

Even Marc and Raphael with each other, though neither would deign to admit it, of course.

Not admitting things was the foundation of Marc's relationships with everyone, really.

"I think so," Steven said. He smiled at Llewellyn. "Like puzzle pieces. The four of us."
