Prompto would be entirely honest; if there was anything a bit different going on in town, he was completely unaware of it, because he'd been singularly focused since pretty much Friday on getting things all ready and set up for Noctra's birthday party today. The decorations were an amalgamation of both puppy things and football things, with a both First Year Down! and Let's Pawty! balloons to really drive it home.

And, of course, the birthday girl herself was showing her appreciation for the theme, as well! Unfortunately, with her dad's excitement all morning in getting things up, she hadn't been able to nap like he was hoping she would, so he was holding his breath that the whole thing wouldn't make her too cranky or overwhelmed, but at least there was plenty to distract her in the meantime. Including a little help from Rain pulling in duty as Party Ruferee.

Then there was getting everything with the catering set out for the guests, which included your typical moddable game day fare, but especially puppy chow, mini hot dogs, and, of course pizza rolls! There were a puppy bowl birthday cake, even, with some vegan cupcake puppy players!

And, of course, near the entrance, there were plenty of party hats for anyone who wanted to claim their allegiance for Team Ruff or Team Fluff or just Team Noctra (he suspected those would be the most popular, really).

And for once, after everything was set up and copious amounts of pictures had been taken, Prompto actually wasn't feeling like he hadn't gone enough on the theme, and was feeling pretty good about this one, actually!

Heck, even if you've never talked to either of them, you could have ~mysteriously~ gotten one, too! Maybe it's your big destiny to meet your true love at a one-year-old's puppy bowl party, you don't know!! ]]

"Steven! Hey!" Prompto probably had enough nervous energy in him to run the length of a football field about fifty times, and it showed when he bounced from one distraction to the next and then to noticing Steven and Watts' arrival and going to go greet them. "Awesome! I'm glad you were able to make it! Come on in, enjoy the party! Cupcakes are vegan, by the way, game is at two, did you want me to grab you a drink? Oh! And presents can go over there, we're doing those and the cake after the game, make yourselves at home..."

There was, miraculously, a pause as his head tilted. "I think I got everything..." And then he laughed and shook his head. "Anyway, yes. Welcome. Thank you for coming."

"Of course, we wouldn't miss it, that's kind of you, good to know and -" Steven ran out as he wasn't able to remember each individual point. He smiled, happy to see Prompto so excited. "Everything looks wonderful. Can I help with anything?"

Honestly, though? With how hot Prompto was hitting those points, that was pretty good!

"Thanks, man," he said, "but what kind of hosts would we be if we asked the guests to help? You're totally good, just kick back and enjoy yourself, that's the whole point! Have you ever been to a Puppy Bowl before?"

"First time," Steven told him. "I'm impressed the dogs know how to play, given how young they are."

Steven had perhaps not done enough checking on the google about what a Puppy Bowl was. This was what happened when you got distracted reminding Marc that what Americans called football didn't actually count.

"Oh," said Prompto, his grin broadening even more, unable to keep maybe a small snicker out of his response, "you have no idea,it's amazing. They're gonna totally blow your mind with what they do out there on the field."

What they lacked in fundamentals, Steven, they more than made up for in adorableness AND cuteness!

"I'm looking forward to it," Steven said. And here he didn't even know about the Kitty Halftime show yet! "Now are we rooting for a particular team? I've no preference so happy to throw my support behind Noctra's favorite, if she has one."

The kittens had their own casino! With blackjack! (But probably no hookers).

"Well," Prompto said, "I did take a look at the line-up, and Team Fluff has a player named Raine, so I think I gotta go with them just out of solidarity with my girl," he gestured toward where Rain was still looking highly dubious about the placement of Watts' hat, "by default."

Did tiny kitten claws count as hooks? Therefore making the kittens themselves hoo... the narrative will show itself out.

"Oh well then we'll throw our support there," Steven said, making a gesture to indicate that it was decided as far as he was concerned. "Though I may need help with understanding the rules if that's all right. Marc tells me it's not a game like humans play it."

Marc had perhaps been fine with leaving Steven to be confused about what that meant precisely. Which was what Steven got for chirping at him about soccer.
