Lachyrte Haven, outside of Galdin Quay, Leide (Eos). Sunday Evening [05/22 FT].
It wasn't every day that started out with taking down a massive dualhorn, but that was exactly how the chocobros got their day started, bright and early and eager to get back on the road again. Varmints vanquished, hunter found, and monster destroyed, Noctis and his crew returned to the Hammerhead with the Regalia all shiny and new from Cindy and Cid's machinations. There was a small pitstop at a rest station along the way, where Cindy asked them to drop something off for someone since they were passing through, but then it off through the mountains and to the glorious sea on the other side, and into the small little resort resting there, where they would set sail for Altissia.
"Wow," Prompto couldn't help gushing as they strolled long the long, long pier, stretching out from the pristine beaches where vacationer soaked up the sun under palm trees and the seaside breeze, "this place is so romantic!"
"And you get to enjoy it with us," Gladio pointed out, nudging Prompto with his elbow.
"All three of us," Noctis chimed in.
"You," Ignis felt compelled to add, "are a lucky man."
Any quip Prompto may have had in response was cut off, though, by the sudden presence of an imposing figure, a tall man dressed oddly in a collection of cloaks and robes and scarves, a battered hat over his long, ragged hair, and an unsettling grin on his face. He strolled up to meet them as they entered the deck of the resort out on the sea, blocking their way.
"I'm afraid," the man said, with a casual shrug and a dismissive wave of his hand, "you're out of luck!"
Something about this stranger's demeanor and presence immediately set them all on edge. "...Are we?" asked Noctis, with a tone that suggested he was be mere seconds from having Gladio just chuck this guy into the ocean.
The ocean where that dismissive hand now gestured. "The boats bring you here," he said.
"...what about 'em?" Prompto then...well, prompted, a moment later, in the awkward pause that followed.
"Well," the mysterious stranger concluded, turning back to them with an impish glint in his eyes, "they'll not take you forth."
Gladio's shoulders squared as if he might not need Noctis telling him to chuck this guy into the ocean. "And what's your story?" he asked.
"I'm an impatient traveler," the man offered, "ready to turn ship." With that, the man moved forward, pushing his way through the cluster of Chocobros, almost nudging Prompto aside if he hadn't been slightly quick enough to shuffled out of the way instead.
"The ceasefire," the man said as he moved through them, "is getting us nowhere."
With that, he turned, and, in the blink of an eye, flicked something toward Noctis. Gladio, already on edge, already prepared, managed to reach out and catch it just in front of the prince's face. Growing impatient, growing angry, Gladio opened his hand to have a look at the small coin now in his palm.
"What's this?" He demanded. "Some sort of souvenir?"
"Consider it your allowance," the man said, with the smoothness of slime.
"Yeah?" Gladio was not amused. "And who's allowing us?"
"A man," the mysterious stranger continued moving down the pier again, with another dismissive wave of his hand as he retreated from them, "of no consequence."
"Pshyeah," muttered Noctis, this unsettled feeling growing. "Right."
And he wasn't the only one who felt that way, either, as they watched the man' casual gait down the boardwalk, and then Prompto worriedly cast his eyes back toward the docks beyond the resort. "You believe what that guy said," he asked, "about the port being closed?"
"I'm...skeptical," said Ignis, "though I won't discount the possibility."
"I say we go check it out for ourselves," Gladio suggested, and go see for themselves they did. They didn't necessarily have to go all the way to the docks, either, as whispers from the patrons of the resort and restless travelers started to confirm what the man had said, expressing disbelief and worry that the ferry service had been suspended, and then, finally, the undeniable proof in the posting at the docks themselves, announcing that the ferries were, indeed, suspended until further notice.
"Well," Prompto wondered aloud, "what do we do now?"
"I guess we play the waiting game," said Ignis.
"Ugh," said Prompto, "I hate that game."
But while they were processing yet another roadblock on their way to Altissia, perhaps not all was entirely lost. On the dock, there was a man by the name of Dino, who claimed to be a reporter of sorts, who recognized Noctis as the prince, and figured he might be able to help a royal in need. He might need them to do him a little bit of a favor in return, though. He's also a bit of a artist, actually, and there's some rare gemstones nearby. If the prince and his crew could actually fetch them for him, he might be able to supply some information on how to circumnavigate the blockade and get them well on the way toward Noctis' wedded bliss.
"So, what?" Gladio wondered as they walked away from Dino and his proposition. "Are we just royal errand boys now?"
"Do you think he can actually get us a way there?" Prompto wondered.
"It's not like we've anything else to do," Ignis pointed out, "except to try."
Of course, early as the day had started, they'd already eaten up a lot of sunlight, far too much to feel comfortable heading into the wilds to hunt up some gemstones, and, since their previous errands had only earned them so much, it was another night of camping for the boyos, this time in Lachyrte Haven, just west of Galdin Quay, with a still fantastic view of the sea. It would almost be relaxing if it weren't for the constant chittering and clacking of the colony of shieldshears in the cove nearby that was enough to make a person wonder what was worse: the daemons that were sure to come out after nightfall, or the massive crabs scuttling around at all hours of the day. It was dangerous outside the city, either way you looked at it.
And once camp was set up, once they'd had another satisfying meal from Ignis (croque madame, this time), and they were settling in for the night, Prompto was on his phone again, this time texting Liz while on his back and telling himself he was going to get some sleep:
Hey, babe, bad news. There's another delay. 🙄 The ferries out of Galdin Quay aren't running, apparently, so we're trying to figure something out. We found a guy who said he might be able to help. Sounds a little sus, but we're going to see what happens in the morning. So another night of camping for us but check out this view!
Which of course meant that Liz was getting a photo of the area he'd taken earlier, and, while he was at it, a few that he'd roped some poor passerby into taking, as well as the one he had Cindy take of them with the Regalia before rolling out.
I'll definitely keep you posted. I swear, if this keeps up, I might just have to give in and bug Summer to just PORTAL us to Altissia!!! Anyway....love you. Miss you. Can't WAIT for this trip to be over and finally see you again! tell Rain I said hi and I miss her too!!! 😘😍😍

Liz wondered if maybe she should mention that she’d found someone she could train with but maybe that was best for a face to face conversation. She didn’t know how well ‘I met a guy who will let me set him on fire without hurting him’ would translate that well into text messages and Prompto already had enough to worry about from the sounds of it.
yes please let me know how things go and please stay safe. I love you and I can’t wait til I see you again. I miss you and so does Rain!!! 😍😍🥰🥰💕💕

I just really wish you were here right now
Which would have defeated the whole point of the 'bachelor party' aspect of this roadtrip, sure, and he definitely wouldn't have wanted to subject Liz to being dragged all over Liede and roughing it in the wilderness at various Havens throughout the land, but...well...
Just a few hiccups, that was all; they were going to get it all straightened out and it would all be worth it next week, when they'd be in Altissia together, finally, and then it would all be worth it.

I wish I could be there with you as well!! I really miss being with you!! ❤️❤️💕💕

how bout things back there in fandom? Anything weird this weekend?
no subject
Liz supposed that qualified as weird because she had told someone she had just met about her powers and that she had issues controlling them

Really? That's awesome! I mean, that you have someone you can train with!
The idea of just lighting a dude on fire, invulnerable or not, didn't exactly sound ideal...nor did the fact that if she had someone to train with there, it...might put a pause on bringing her here more permanently, but....well, if the guy didn't mind, and if it meant she would get a better control on her powers...
...that was probably for the best, especially if she was going to move here more permanently.
But oh no, what if the guy was cute???
This road trip seriously needed to be over soon.

Liz still wasn’t sure how it had happened but she was curious to see how training progressed.

Loooootta things that could burn in the preserve...
definitely don't pick a dry day and make sure to let the fire department know
Then he winced a little, worried about how that might have sounded and swiftly added:
obviously. Duh. I probably definitely don't need to tell you that
...he hoped.

If he was completely honest, Prompto would admit to having some reservations, but anyway you looked at it, any practice would be good practice.
