Prompto had been planning for this thing for a while and it was finally time for all his hard work to come to fruition! Nestled among dozens of other similar houses on a quiet residential street, the Argentum house was usually unremarkable, just one among many typical ~~Tokyo~~ Insomnian homes. But today? Oh, today was definitely different! There would be no mistaking which house was Prompto and Nina's! Pink, yellow, and blue balloons were tied to the mailbox, to the fence, even the corners of the eaves on the roof, and streamers of the same color dripped from the roof as well. A large banner reading "HAPPY BIRTHDAY NINA!!" was hung from the wall and could easily be seen from the street, which had been blocked to traffic for the purposes of the party. After all, they didn't exactly have a backyard, so Prompto had commandeered as much space as he could. Where else would he put the bouncy house??? There was also a table with snacks and beverages out there, and a costumed moogle out there to greet guests and occasionally put on a little show. There was a stereo pumping out some fun, festive music into the air, and that was just the outside!

Because the door was open and there was a sign that clearly indicated there was plenty more fun inside and that everyone was welcome to come in, where they'd find more food in the kitchen and dining room, including a very ~~moddable~~ extensive Build Your Own Cupcake Bar and featuring a fruit and macaroon birthday cake as well as a more traditional one, and then, in the living room, the guests would find everything rearranged around a makeshift karaoke stage, because that's right, everyone, there is definitely going to be karaoke at this party!

And just wait until Prompto started getting everyone together for the games!

Look. He'd never really had a stereotypical backyard birthday party growing up, and he knew for a fact that Nina definitely hadn't, either, and so that was absolutely what was happening today! So grab yourself a party hat (unless you're Nina! Then you get a crown!), maybe a few noisemakers and rainbow sparklers, and get ready to have a great time!

And because she knew good and well he was half-working half-enjoying things, Nina waited until Ignis was talking to Noctis before she wandered over to bother Gladio.

"As princess today," she said, grinning up at him. "I would like a hug!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"I think I can manage that," Gladio decided, looking down at Nina with a faint grin, before he unfolded his arms and opened them up for her. "Though I have to warn you, I can't be held responsible for any broken bones that might ensue."

"I can take it!!!!!!!" she declared. "I'm tougher than I look!!!!!!!!"

Which was good because the guy in the moogle costume looked tougher than Nina did today.

She flung her arms about Gladio.

And, really, Gladio was pretty good at measuring his strength, so he was going to give Nina a gd hug that definitely was clearly not holding back too much, but definitely holding back enough that the poor girl didn't feel crushed.

"Happy birthday, kid," he said before freeing her from what was clearly just a terrible ordeal of politeness to have to endure those arms squeezed around here. "You having a good time?"

Yeah, it sure was a tragedy getting a hug from him. It definitely wasn't like she'd spent some of her time last night to detailing all the wonderful things about those arms, those abs, that butt after seeing their practice yesterday.

Okay, so she'd also spent a good while gushing to her diary about the others but when it came to sheer manliness Gladio was it.

... Though she could do without him calling her a kid!

"I'm not a kid!!!!!!!!!!!" she protested, though everything about this party argued otherwise and she loved it all. "And it's the best!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Gladio's grin was doubtful, but still had the quality of someone willing to indulge her on that point, even though, let's face it, since she was friends with his kid sister, that pretty much locked her into that category.

"Good," he said, focusing on the second part instead. "You deserve it."

She was forever doomed to her being categorized that way and, honestly, there were worse things especially since she had a good friend out of the whole deal.

"I'm not sure our neighbours will agree," she admitted, with a sidelong glance at... everything. "But, like, thanks!!!!!!!!!! Yesterday was fascinating too!!!!!!!!!!"

"Yesterday was..." His head tilted a little, grunting a little as if he wasn't quite sure that was the word he'd use for it. "...interesting," he allowed, and then looked over at Nina speculatively. "You think it helped any?"

He supposed he shouldn't really be focusing on that kind of thing on a day like today, but if she was going to bring it up, he wasn't going to be able to ignore that Prompto's whole phone fiasco was something that had been crawling under his skin ever since it happened, and the last few days had definitely not helped him to shake off any of that feeling.

"I think so," she said, her smile not changing any but something in her eyes going colder. "I'll have to run my own simulations now that I've got more stats to work with but, if nothing else, it will help rule out possibilities!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Gladio grunted faintly at that, his shoulders squaring a little as he looked over the party, as if, all of a sudden, the answer might jump out at them right then and there. "Let's hope so," he murmured, then he shook his head, like he didn't have a whole lot of faith in that statement. "I don't know, though. Something about this," or everything about it, really, "just doesn't feel right."
