Somewhere in the Preserve; Sunday Afternoon [10/21].

“Awwww, man, Sidon!”

Bouncing with excitement, Prompto went to clap the Zora prince on the shoulder...winding up with his hand somewhere around his middle-back. They were headed into the preserve, by Prompto's own request, in search of a solution to a string of texts between himself and Noctis about all the animal transformations around the island this week. He was trying to explain to Noct about some of the weird things like that that happened, wherein he had to mention gremlin bites, too, which then just made Noct curious about what a gremlin actually was, which then lead Prompto to realize he'd never seen one before. And maybe that was a good thing, but now he had to see if he could get a picture of one. No way he was doing it alone, though, and he figured if anyone could be a good help fighting off gremlins, it would be the good old Zora Prince.

Besdies, he did kind of want to get to know Sidon better. He was a prince! Who better to help him feel more comfortable being friends with a prince than another prince? They HAD to be friends! Even if Sidon didn't fit his perceptions of what a prince might be like at all, but, then again, neither did Noctis.

“Thanks again for helping me out with this, buddy,” Prompto said. “I really appreciate it.”

“Oh, think nothing of it!” Sidon smiled down at the hyper little human. “I am both honored and pleased that you thought to ask for my assistance, Prompto. It was exceptionally wise of you to ensure that you did not partake in this endeavor alone.”

Prompto giggled a little, in part because of how Sidon’s speech patterns made even Ignis seem informal, but it was mostly just nerves. “Okay,” he said, grinning wildly, “so let’s go over the plan again. We go into the woods, find a good spot, I get ready, and you get out the nice pretty shiny,” and here they shared a grin as Sidon fished out the sparkling green rupee from...well, where ever he kept it, Prompto didn’t really want to know...and held it in the light, “it jumps out to grab it, you step back and then... click! Wham, bam, thank you ma’am, I got myself the perfect action shot of a real live Fandom Island gremlin! Yeah!” He pumped his fist in the air a little, with a small jump to expend some of this adrenaline. “It’s the perfect plan! What could possibly go wrong?”

And that was how you knew Prompto was still pretty new around here. Sidon, on the other hand, who was just as enthusiastic and met Prompto's fist pump with one of his own, should have known better.

“Here, gremlin, gremlin, gremlin,” Prompto sang quietly as they moved deeper into the woods, his heart racing so fast he felt like it had turned into a hummingbird. He was actually a little terrified of seeing a gremlin in the flesh; they were probably a lot like daemons, he guessed, since he’d never seen one of those, either. But it was bright and in the middle of the day (doing this at night? Forget about it!) and he had Sidon by his side. Big, strong Sidon who probably ate gremlins for breakfast. He could do this. There was nothing to worry abou--

“Sidon! To your left!”

Oh, man, THAT was a gremlin?? Well. Now. That thing was uuuuug-lyyyyy, with a captial U! But Prompto didn’t let that distract him, quick on the moment, pulling out his camera just as the creature leaped forward and Sidon leaped back.

CLICK! CLICK! CLICK! CLICK!

“Got it!” Prompto called out triumphantly, lowering the camera and going immediately to the viewer to see how they turned out, laughing when he saw them. “Oh, man! Sweet! These are great; Noct is gonna love these! Hey, Sidon, come check these out!"

...

“...Sidon?”

Prompto slowly turned around. Sidon was still there, sure, but there was definitely something….different about him. For one, his eyes seemed to have gotten bigger and he was batting them and fluttering his eyelashes an awful lot. He had his headtail over his shoulder, stroking it in a shy and nervous fashion, and he was biting his lip. And those bright, eager eyes were locked straight onto Prompto.

“Oh, shi--”

Before he could even finish that thought, Sidon suddenly swept Prompto up in his arms, held him close and smushed their faces together in what was a very wet, very fishy, very...enthusiastic kiss.

And that wasn’t even the worst of it. The sudden realization that, even after the kissing booth, after the flirting and the dancing last night at the homecoming dance, after everything that could have possibly have built up to it this weekend, this was finally Prompto's first kiss. His first kiss, with a giant red shark prince in the middle of the woods who'd just been bitten by a gremlin. Well. He did want his first kiss to be memorable, he supposed, although he felt even worse for Sidon, because he remembered he hadn't taken a drink at that question at the party, either.

Yeesh.

Oh, and there was also the fact that he was pretty sure that whoever Sidon thought he was was not nearly as strong as Sidon ACTUALLY was.

“Big...shark,” Prompto squirmed a little as he gasped out the words. “Small...man...crushing...bones…!"

Finally, Sidon released Prompto, who staggered a little on the ground, clutching his chest, gasping for air.

“Oh, thank goodness I’ve found you!” Sidon gushed, adopting a very strange and girlish falsetto, those eyelashes still batting. “And just in time, too! I’m Princess Ariel, of the kingdom of Atlantica. I made a deal with the sea witch that she could have my voice in exchange for legs so that I can find my true love on land, and only true love’s first kiss could bring my voice back. Listen!”

And here Sidon sang a vocal song, which Prompto was sure would have been a truly beautiful melody if it had come from anyone other than Sidon.

“So you see,” he continued, brightly, hands clasped before him, “you’re my true love!”

“...oh, geez...man,” Prompto murmured, wincing as he rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, “things are gonna get real awkward between us when you turn back to normal, dude.”

A confused frown surfaced on Sidon...er…”Ariel”’s face. “Huh?”

“Uhhh,” Prompto tried think of how to explain, realized it was probably pointless, and just shook his head. “Er, uh, never mind...your highness.” And then he did the only thing he could think to do, bowing slightly, then offering out his arm. “Let’s just get you home, yeah, Princess?"

At which point, the 'princess' beamed, giggling with excitement as she glomped onto the proffered arm of her true love, eager to follow wherever he may lead.

[[ Cut for length, because I am wordy. fun fact: this was my writing prompt for Prompto, slightly altered, and I knew I was actually going to use it one day, I just didn't necessarily expect it to be the perfect stone for killing so, so many I Nevers! Also, apparently all my gremlin bites are Disney Princesses, don't judge.

Mostly establishly, as they're moving to a different location, but definitely open if you want to catch them while they're out here! ]]
