Prompto had been planning for this thing for a while and it was finally time for all his hard work to come to fruition! Nestled among dozens of other similar houses on a quiet residential street, the Argentum house was usually unremarkable, just one among many typical ~~Tokyo~~ Insomnian homes. But today? Oh, today was definitely different! There would be no mistaking which house was Prompto and Nina's! Pink, yellow, and blue balloons were tied to the mailbox, to the fence, even the corners of the eaves on the roof, and streamers of the same color dripped from the roof as well. A large banner reading "HAPPY BIRTHDAY NINA!!" was hung from the wall and could easily be seen from the street, which had been blocked to traffic for the purposes of the party. After all, they didn't exactly have a backyard, so Prompto had commandeered as much space as he could. Where else would he put the bouncy house??? There was also a table with snacks and beverages out there, and a costumed moogle out there to greet guests and occasionally put on a little show. There was a stereo pumping out some fun, festive music into the air, and that was just the outside!

Because the door was open and there was a sign that clearly indicated there was plenty more fun inside and that everyone was welcome to come in, where they'd find more food in the kitchen and dining room, including a very ~~moddable~~ extensive Build Your Own Cupcake Bar and featuring a fruit and macaroon birthday cake as well as a more traditional one, and then, in the living room, the guests would find everything rearranged around a makeshift karaoke stage, because that's right, everyone, there is definitely going to be karaoke at this party!

And just wait until Prompto started getting everyone together for the games!

Look. He'd never really had a stereotypical backyard birthday party growing up, and he knew for a fact that Nina definitely hadn't, either, and so that was absolutely what was happening today! So grab yourself a party hat (unless you're Nina! Then you get a crown!), maybe a few noisemakers and rainbow sparklers, and get ready to have a great time!

"What's later?????????" she asked immediately because he couldn't just say things like that and then not tell her! "And ohmygosh, like, I can't believe you got a moogle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Nina was going to take so many pictures with that moogle. Sorry to whoever was in the costume.

Don't worry; they were being very well paid. And also getting free complimentary Cup Noodles^TM on his lunch breaks, too!

"Yeah, right," Prompto snorted. "I can't tell you now and ruin the surprise! But, trust me." He held up a hand with assuring confidence. "It's gonna totally be worth it."

Then the grin cracked his serious demeanor again. "And I'm glad you like the moogle, too, it's a great touch, and I figured, having at least one costumed performer would make it look a little less strange that there's literally a nine foot tall bright red shark dude in front of our house right now. They'll just assume it's some obscure character, or something, and a really impressive costume."

There was also a much shorter stuffed cat trying to get people drunk but, like, the same reasoning sort of applied!

"That's, like, super great thinking," she said, with another quick hug for her brother. "That way we don't have to worry about people being too weirded out by all of-------this!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Nina giggled and leaned in a little.

"Does whatever you're planning have anything to do with what Noct's wearing????????"

Because that was a thing.

"No," said Prompto, whose attempt not to laugh just meant that the laugh burst out of him more, "it isn't, but I will say that what Noct is wearing makes what I'm planning that much better."

"Ohmygosh" she said, laughing. "Now I'm even more curious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"Guess you'll just have to wait and see~eeee," Prompto sang out, which he thought was very clever, considering what the surprise was going to be. "My lips are sealed, though, you're not getting anything out of me until it happens, and everyone else involved has been sworn to secrecy as well!"

And he wasn't going to tell her who those were, either, because then she'd start pestering them. And while he figured he could trust Ignis and Gladio not to spill any beans, there was a good chance that Noct would just yeet them right out the window.

Noct doing that was... totally a possibility. Absolutely.

"Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine," she said, heaving a completely put upon and totally fake sigh and pout combo. "I guess I'll just have to amuse myself with everything else until then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"I'm sure you'll survive," Prompto informed her with a snort. "Did you get to see the cupcake bar in the dining room yet?"

"I haven't!!!!!!!!!" She'd been mostly distracted about the things outside of the house! "Show me, show me!!!!!!!!!!!"

"Alright, come on," Prompto laughed a little, cocking his head toward the house before starting that way, "let's get you in there before someone else shows up to bestow all their good wishes on the birthday girl! We've got two different cakes, too! Well, one's not really technically a cake, but I think you'll really like it!"

"How is something a cake but not a cake????????????" she asked, tagging along with him and just unable to stop smiling even a little. "How long did you spend on all of this?!?!?!?!!!"

"Nina, please." Prompto gasped, a hand to his chest with his apparent offense that she would even ask such a thing! "And reveal all my secrets? No way! Long enough. That's all you need to know."

And, really, considering he was balancing everything with Fandom while planning it, it wasn't really that long, it was just pretty scattered, which made it seem longer than it was, probably.

"And it's like...cake in spirit," he explained, and now that they were inside, he could show her what he meant with the fruit-and-macaroon dessert. "See? And seventeen, because, you know, obviously."

"Ohmygosh it's gorgeous," she breathed, honestly feeling a little overwhelmed.

"Yeah?

"It was Ignis's idea," Prompto added, despite the fact that his face lit up at Nina's assessment as if he had made the thing himself, and then seemed to get a little embarrassed about it. "When I asked him what we might do that used maybe more fruit, since I know you don't really like too many sweets and stuff..."
